2021 revero gt, Yellow Engine light came up, says to call karma

Car was brought in on September 21st, still no car, not even a loaner, I'll update as soon as Karma comes with a resolution.

15 Issues listed:

-1 repaired, I have driven the car to confirm but shop says it's tested ok

-6 issues cannot be repaired or diagnosed

-7 issues pending repair/diagnosis

So this is going to be the real test, later this morning I'll be calling Karma, a warning message came up on the infor system, as well as a yellow check engine on the HUD.

Drove all the way back home, no detail on the message, the only thing you can read is to call Karma Service which I'll be doing this morning. I will update you guys and this will be the second test. Nothing showing up in the "owners" web section, nothing showing up the android app.

Let's see:

-Karma HUB social support (FAIL)

-Karma Service Dept. (RESPONSIVE) I can't say anything negative about the service so far

-Karma Customer's Service Dept. (RESPONSIVE) I can't say anything negative about the service so far (24-48 hours call return)

-Karma Repair (PENDING) Car was brought in three times now, it's in the shop since September 28th

-HV red light on (FAIL - NO RESOLUTION) Karma claim this is due to wheel slip and it's a software bug with no resolution and no planned update

-Engine light 1 (REPAIRED) replaced a sensor on turbo 09/30/2021

-Engine light 2 (FAIL - NO RESOLUTION) couldn't find the problem they reset the ECU to make it go away

-Vibration under acceleration (PENDING) This has been replicated by the technician (points to drive train problem)

-Vibration at 65-70mph (PENDING) This has been confirmed by technician (It's not confirmed a separate issue note related to acceleration vibration)

-Car shake at low engine RPM (PENDING) Everytime the engine start at low speed it shake as if it was misfiring at low RPM

-Passenger car door requires pushing the button 1-3 times to exit (PENDING) depending on your luck it may require 2-3 attempts to open the door

-Passenger window seals (PENDING) Technician hasn't been able to fix the problem yet (Karma proposed adjusting the window)

-Panel Gaps (FAIL - NO FIX) Karma authorized repair, shop says it cannot be improved/repaired without worsening other gaps, basically the car is crooked.

-WIndshield bubbles (PENDING) Karma authorized replacement

-Glass roof bubbles (FAIL - REFUSED) Karma state it's normal/intended

-Windshield seal pinched (PENDING) Karma authorized replacement (as part of windshield replacement)

-Front wheel dammaged (REPAIRED - NOT REPLACED) by service while moving car onto joist

-Software glitch Infotainment (FAIL - KNOWN ISSUE) support told me to connect the phone after the car is started 09/27/2021 - Update back to pending this happenned w/o the phone connected, still is a problem. - Customer's service state an update is in the work

-Software glitch HUD (FAIL - KNOWN ISSUE) support told me to connect the phone after the car is started 09/27/2021 - NO RESOLUTION

 

UPDATE- Engine light came on, Sunday 19th of September.

UPDATE- Picked up the car today, October 6th, dealership said they needed to wait on Karma to approve the list, took the car back home, now it has a red light on. Karma is sending a tow truck to take the car back to the shop!

UPDATE - Customer's service called today, October 10th, they are looking at resolutions and customer's satisfaction. Support committed to a call back this week.

UPDATE - October 15th, sales pushed back resolution to next week.

UPDATE - October 18th no news.

UPDATE - October 20th Karma pushed further out resolution, stating they need to assess everything. Still no car, no loaner.

UPDATE - October 25th Sales and Customer support are both participating at the resolution now

UPDATE - October adding two more pending items to the list

Called at 10:00am, got an automated message "1" for roadside assistance and "2" for anything else...

I press "2" and says all their representatives are busy and I can leave a voice message...

Not a good start.

11:30am I gave up and called my dealership, they got me an appointment tomorrow 10am, hopefully this is a minor warning and doesn't turn into a major fault and have me stranded on the side of the road.

I was hoping Karma would pick up the phone and/or call me back after all they claim the car is "connected" at all time maybe they could read the code and let me know if it's safe to drive or not.

This a huge let down, and let me explain, Karma claims that the car is "always connected" is something that could ease the mind of new owners or potential new owners, after all if the manufacturer can monitor your car it will issue preemptive warning and support you, so buying a brand that is not well established or supported at every street corner become less of a gamble.

They claimed in a video to have a call center monitoring the vehicles but I think all those people have been laid off.  They rely on the dealership now whom calls PowerSource for help from what I have seen.  The TSS organization has basically evaporated

Update, yesterday 5pm I got an SMS.

"Hi, XXXX-XXXXX. It will need to go to the closest Karma dealer - It is an emissions check code. Will need to look at the clean air duct system. It is safe to drive as is."

This is huge, manufacturer to explain that it's safe to drive an instruct you to go to dealership. Doesn't sopund like much but it's a good feeling.

Now the shop couldn't find the problem and will need the car for a period of time. It might be a week before they have a loaner available, so no repair soon. Hopefully this doesn't lead to further breakdown. That said after 2,000 miles I do have a list of things that need to be addressed. Check the following posts.

Windshield and Roof glass both have air bubbles inside the glass,

And a lot, this is a safety hazard as it deflect the lights at night blinds during bright sunlight.

All the white dots you see in the picture are air bubbles trapped inside the glass, the photo is about 3 inches by 3 inches large, the whole roof and whindshield are like this. You can only see at night from incoming traffic or during bright daylight.

And now since a week, there is vribration that can be felt through the steering wheel at 65-75mph or under acceleration.

The cluster left and right side just went blank on Sunday driving back home, software bug most likely. And the driver profiles get mixed up no matter which key I use to unlock or get in the car. Also the infotainment when dark a couple days ago, had to stop the car and restart.

The software issues started after the recent update. FYI

Received a call from the manufacturer's representative today, he wamted to follow-up on the repair.

Nice touch, it's the little things that sets apart a company from others.

I just had the yellow engine light come on as well today. Car was running in stealth mode when it happen. Going to a servicing dealer tomorrow 4 hours away; I am driving the car there. Fingers crossed.

 

Did you get anymore information on the cause of the engine check indicator? Was it really emissions related?

Quick update: I was still in the car when I wrote the last post. 

I decided to try a few things in case the yellow engine light is emissions related. I unscrewed my gasoline fuel cap and re-screwed it back on tightly.  

I then waited 10 mins and restarted the car in stealth mode to drive away. The generator kicked in within 5 secs and the yellow engine light was gone. 

I then checked the energy flow display and saw the generator was shown as active. I went to the secondary display and saw that car was in generator maintenance mode. It automatically ran in this mode for 5-7 mins and then shutdown and the car when back into stealth mode. All displays confirmed this transition. This is likely a monthly or mileage initiated generator maintenance cycle that was not able to run correctly before. All extended range plug-ins normally have this feature.

Tomorrow I will leave an update on if the yellow engine light remains off.

That is great news, I was wondering about this. I asked about the engine maintenance in another thread. Thanks to your post it's been answered.

So we can drive stealth all the time and not worry about the ICE, the system will do a maintenance run.

Now to answer your question, it's an emission code. I went ahead and unscrewed the gas cap, nothing to lose right?

As for my appointment, I'm still waiting on Karma and the dealership to schedule me.

Day two still no issues or return of the yellow engine light. Took a longer road trip today and had to add fuel. Generator maintenance came on again for a few minutes just after refueling and restart; the maintenance cycle then stopped automatically. Still No yellow light or errors.

Day three: Started Ok, stopped for lunch and grabbed a charge while eating. Jumped in the car to leave and a message that "Propulsion not available" was displayed. 

It also displayed a note that my 12v battery was low. Per the gages it was over 12.38v which should be fine. I am now dealing with a number of faults that all seems to be power related. The car is at 50% on the main battery pack.

The car was at a dealer yesterday for a diagnostic scan for my DC fast charging issue.  Not sure if my current issues are related. However, I do know that the low voltage warning started after that vehicle scan. Perhaps the 12v was drained during that period. 

Many of the messages prompted me to call Karma, but as we all know now, that Corp number goes straight to voicemail.  Not sure what the options are from here; I plan to fully charge the car since I am at a charger and try to get it moving again once everything is topped off.

mpar21  I feel your pain, and there is no support on the weekend either.

Luckily the Revero GT is not my only car...

That said I'm still waiting for an appointment, needles to say all the issues listed in this post are great from being fixed.

Please keep us updated on your journey as I will too so that future owners expectations are set properly.

BoudahXL  I got my 2018 Revero going again with no propulsion warnings and drove for a while. My Yellow engine light is back however, I now believe my car my be experiencing the same issue as another post on the MSD Relay Fuse; my car may need a replacement to solve the propulsion error codes and lost of mobility. I believe this because after another 20 minute ride and stopping for 1 hour,  all of the errors returned & stopped me from driving the car.

My desperate solution: I allowed the vehicle to fully shutdown and rest (a reset) a few times and got it restarted successfully again. However, these errors are just too random to be actual faults in all cases! It is more like a lack of power is causing the sensor readings to stop or become irregular enough to throw a fault.

Next Step: I need to get my Revero to the closest dealer. I am in Chicago this weekend for "Fun", so I guess its a local dealer to the rescue on Monday, if I am going to drive back home anytime soon.

I'll keep the Hub updated. Have a good weekend everyone!

I tried the gas cap. Still engine light on.

I'm a bit disappointed my car has only 2,000 miles and it got a lot of problems that need to be addressed.

This is a premium case of bad QC, I just hope Karma will make up for it, already a week in and still no repairs initiated.

2018 Revero update:

Took car to Karma of Chicago today to troubleshoot my car's recent irrational faults and the yellow check engine indicator. After a discussion with the service manager about the recent error messages and vehicle behavior (see images). The dealer scanned my car and this time Yellow engine check showed that the 12v battery was the likely cause of my issues. This makes sense on a 2018 model with its original 12v battery. 

A new battery was installed and cleared all codes and returned my Revero to normal operation. Since I was in Chicago this weekend and needed to drive home this service solution just received a 500 miles battle test. It passed with flying colors!!!  Karma of Chicago did it right. 

None of the warning lights showed in the attached images returned. No gear set or propulsion lost messages. This after 4-5 restarts, two gas fill ups and high speed highway and normal road travel. 

if any changes I will post it here.

mpar21  The shop finally issued a loaner, I dropped the car this afternoon. I'll keep you posted. As far as I'm concerned Karma did a good job at following up. Now let's see how they handle the windshield and roof issue.

Shop replaced a turbo oxygen sensor. Engine light is gone, car is still in shop for the numerous issues that needs to be resolved.

Do you know of any other owners of the Revero GT or G6 who haven't had QC issues? Such a low volume vehicle so it seems difficult to track quality data. The dealer here swears he has a customer with 80k on his Revero without significant issues. Would love to read positive experiences in both the short and long term.

As long as you know what to expect you will love the car, like I said expectations and perception are everything.

BoudahXL  I suppose few vehicles have zero issues, but it would be nice. I would hope for no catastrophic failures that would prevent me from driving safely. The press has ragged Tesla over build quality issues and I would hope Karma performs better on the whole. The experience you have had makes me question that though.

Alright dealership called today, the engine light was fixed by replacing a turbo sensor. They said I might as well pick up the car while waiting on Karma to approve the numerous problems to be fixed.

Driving the car home, heard a loud pop, HV red light came on, then a yellow engine light and then a green turtle light, said car was going in limp mode.

The infotainment system showed a number to call but it wouldn't select the right options, had to call back manually to reach roadsie assistance. 3:30pm talked to someone at Karma, they said tow truck will be here at 5:30pm.

4:00pm they cancelled the tow truck without telling me!!! Now I'm trying to reach road asisstance, nobody answers! This unreal.

5:05pm someone called back claiming the tow truck company had a system failure (Two truck company claimed Karma cancelled) Karma is going to send a new tow truck tomorrow morning... Thank god I'm not on the side of the road or highway.

6:30pm Karma send an SMS they can schedule a tow truck to arrive at 8:30pm. I confirmed with them next morning.

Now I'm really considering pulling a "lemon law" article on this, any suggestions would be appreciated.

gmorris  Oct 8th, Dealership called, they haven't found the problem. The car has been in service for 18 days now. So basically they have 12 days left to fix the problems.

This morning the two truck showed up, Karma called to confirm the car was picked up, then they call again to confirm it was dropped at the dealership.

All in all the roadside answer the phone, but the turn around time is ridiculous, the car broke down at 3:30pm and the earliest they could send a car was 8:30pm.

Thank god I was not out of town or on the side of the highway, what a mess.

Karma authorized the windshield replacement, but have denied the roof glass stating that it's normal/intended on the roof glass...

Karma claim that the HV error is due to wheel slip. They have no fix at the moment.
