LEGITIMATE COMPANY?

Hello folks,

I'm seriously considering buying the Karma GS-e6 when it comes out.  The issue I'm having is I've tried calling, messagiing, and emailing the company, and have received absolutely no response.  I'm a more than a little concerned that I'd be spending upwards of $100K for a vehicle, and I can't even get through to their corporate headquarters.  I went to look at the Karma GS-6 at an exotic car dealership, and when I told the salesman I'd probably wait for the EV since it was going to start around $80K, he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about.  That figure is literally on the Karma website.  So my question is, what are actual owner experiences with the company like?  Thanks in advance.

***Update*** Received an email from a Senior Owner Experience Manager.  Called him back and had a great conversation.  I wanted to make sure I got this information out there, for full disclosure.

Few things you need to keep in mind.

-Karma is a young company

-Karma is small

-The information you requested at a dealership is as good as the dealership is. Many sales reps don't read bulletins and news specially if they cover many brands. I wouldn't worry too much about this.

-Relationship with your car dealership, this is the most important part, sure they will smile and offer you coffee until you buy the car, but once you have the car what happens?

-Karma is not nimble, keep that in mind, if your budget is tight and you have only one car you need to consider insurance that offers rentals, and dealership that carry loaners during service/repairs.

-Car quirks, there are many and you have to live with them, if they irritate you and assume Karma will iron them overtime, think again. they are small they address urgent problems, not quirks.

-Make sure the car is inspected before you grab the keys and sign off on the car, have everything fixed "BEFORE" you take ownership, if the dealership pressure you, walk away.

The last point is super important, quirks and small issues are one thing, taking ownership of a car with bad door gaps or window seals problem for example is another thing, this is not Toyota or Honda, those will not get fixed under a week or two.

Lastly, don't hold your breath on unreleased products, the GS6e might be released tomorow or it might never be released!!!

Not so sure the CEO got canned a few days ago not even sure who is running it anymore.  Looks like they will cut bait and all cars will be oprhans soon

gmorris  Can you give me the source of your information?  I've been in contact with someone from corporate and he hasn't mentioned this, and I did an internet search and did not see anything.

gmorris  Well that's certainly interesting.  Are you a Karma owner?

RCDCCARLIN  Had a one on lease, ended up turning it in and bought a 2012, which seems to have better support.  My local dealer shut down right after I turned it in- the main Karma corporate guy that ran service and sales also quit in September.  Writing is on the wall.

Agree with the above, a lot will depend upon the local dealership. Thus far my experience has been pretty good, although I have not had to take the car back to the dealership for service. The salesman was very accessible and I texted him a good amount in the first week or so for answers to a few things. One thing I learned is that most of the quirks are surmountable and you can do a hard reset by unplugging the main cable under the hood which seems to fix almost everything. Overall the experience has been good and I have 2700 miles on the odometer so far. Best of luck!

Hachisma1  Most definitely! I am about to do it again as a service engine light has re-emerged. The last time it happened I was told it was likely nothing and to see if it resets. The hard reset fixed it for 1500 miles. Will see if it does it again.

BoudahXL  As happened the last time, I didn't even get to the point of hard reset and the service engine light resolved itself. Seems to do that if I wait two days and do nothing.

I am more concerned reading the comments above regarding changes in leadership at the company. The Facebook Karma group seems to have more support from corporate. I will see if there is anything going on over there that hints at corporate dissolution. That would truly be a shame.

I have to say I've had nothing but great experience and seen no lack of support from corporate. I just called them with an issue I'm having with the app, and I got a call back within the hour. Incredibly nice and helpful guy (John) who left me his personal cell number. Told me they were shut down right now, but that doesn't really surprise me. I have relatives that work for Ford and GM and they close for the whole month of December. Corporate and my dealer have contacted me, unsolicited, a few times to check in since I bought the car.  I really think it has to do with your dealer and their relationship with corporate. My dealer is an original and has close ties to corporate, so maybe I'm lucky?

They are shutdown for sure for Christmas/New Years. My daughter works for Mazda corporate and it's the same deal. It's probably the same across the auto industry. Good to hear about your experience.
